I started this portrait of Jesus basing the facial structure on the image of the face on the Shroud of Turin. The face seemed to evolve in its own way as I worked on it and take on a life of its own. I kept in mind that Jesus had spent probably 20 years working as a carpenter, which was similar to being in construction, from the age of 12 when he would have started working with his foster father, Joseph. He was a laborer, worked hard, and had spent time in the sun. In this portrait, Jesus is at the Sea of Galilee as dawn is breaking. He is asking the question he asks each of his disciples, "Will you follow Me?" What will be your answer?
This painting won a first place Blue Ribbon at the Chico Silver Dollar Fair in 2015. It was gifted to a priest friend in 2017
