Description
WHAT: This is a stylized Madonna and child that had an interesting inspiration and then took its own shape as I worked on it. Mary has a calm and thoughtful look. The child Jesus seems to look wonderingly at his mother. This pastel won a first place Blue Ribbon at the Chico Silver Dollar Fair.
WHEN: April, 2017
WHERE: Paradise, California
WHY: I saw the cover of a DVD that suggested an abstract Madonna and child image when looked at from an angle at a distance. I thought I'd try to see what I could do with this inspiration. I found that the image was too abstracted to duplicate for my taste and used the main elements instead. The image became stylized but interesting as I worked on it.
