WHAT: A portrait of Jesus as Divine Mercy, done in colored pencil on an ivory mat board. The rays represent Jesus' merciful graces, as water and blood flowed from his pierced heart at the crucifixion.
WHEN: March 2020
WHERE: Auburn, California
WHY: I wanted to create an image of the Divine Mercy that was closer to the original image approved by Sister Faustina, who described Jesus as coming to her with such humility that his eyes were averted. The original painting was found in 1990 and restored.
