Description
While on a short visit to the Los Angeles area in August of 2014, I visited the Getty Villa located above Malibu, California. This is a view from the outer peristyle of a ancient Roman home built by the Gettys and modeled on the Villa dei Papiri, excavated from the ruins of c. 79 AD Herculaneum, with details from excavated homes of the period. The villa now houses the Getty collection of ancient Greek, Roman and Etrurian antiquities. The villa is a beautiful recreation of first century Roman architecture. The center pool was dry due to California's continuing drought. The lovely gardens are planted with native Mediterranean species. Here is an example of a pomegranate tree with the museum building in the background. Note the Corinthian columns supporting the balcony above.

Michele Myers replied:
Thank you so much for your continuing support, Hanne! The grounds are kept immaculately by the Getty Villa gardeners. On the other side of the walled garden in a Mediterranean vegetable and herb garden which supplies some of its harvest for the restaurant.
